Call for Papers: Conference on Chinese Infrastructure Engagement in Africa

The China-Africa Research Initiative (CARI) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) announces a call for papers for its third annual conference and researchers' workshop: "Chinese Infrastructure Engagement in Africa."

The conference will be held at Johns Hopkins SAIS in Washington DC from Thursday, October 13 to Friday, October 14, 2016. We are pleased to announce a Call for Papers for this conference and workshop. Call for Papers - The ethnographic archive: history, anthropology and the Sudan Archive Durham
26-28 September 2016 | Palace Green Library | Durham University

We invite paper proposals from postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers working on eastern and central Africa for this interdisciplinary conference at Durham University, organised by current postgraduate students. The key discussant will be Professor Sharon Hutchinson, whose seminal anthropological study Nuer Dilemmas famously revisited the work of E. E. Evans-Pritchard on the Nuer of South Sudan. We particularly invite papers which speak to the interplay of anthropology and history.

1st Call for Papers - African Films and Decolonisation
21-23 October, 2016 | University of Westminster

This 8th African Film Conference, organised by the Africa Media Centre, will again bring together academic scholars and practitioners to discuss how film has been involved in national independence and decoloniality. There will be a special launch of an African Documentary Film Screening Project run by Keith Shiri. This year it will focus on the role of documentary films in African independence. We are concerned to bring to the fore sub-themes of the role of African film in decolonization, including African film’s potential for emancipation.To address the above and similar issues relating to film, screen cultures and decolonisation in Africa, we invite scholars to submit panel proposals and/ or abstracts to journalism@westminster.ac.uk by Monday 30 May 2016.

The ANTICORRUPTION ACADEMY OF NIGERIA (ACAN) organises the NATIONAL ANTICORRUPTION CONFERENCE

Submission of Proposals/Abstracts Prospective participants are to indicate their interest by submitting an abstract of not more than 300 words on any of the themes noted above and related issues. Interested scholars may also propose panels on themes that address the focus of the conference with a view to informing policymaking in anticorruption matters. Authors of accepted papers would be informed by 19 August and full papers are due by 11 November 2016.

THE CENTRE OF HISTORY AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY AT SCIENCES PO INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR :
  •  A full time tenured professorship in HISTORY. The job offered is a public sector position (“Professeur des universities”) attached to section 22 of the French “Conseil National des Universités.
  • Within History privileged themes are : history of Sub-saharan Africa, with a preference for the political of the 19th and 20th century.


Teaching Associate in African History (Fixed Term)
Deadline: 10 June 2016

Applications are invited for a fixed-term (15 month) replacement teaching position in African History. We invite applications from outstanding historians with specialist expertise in any region, but with wide knowledge of African history from c. 1500. The post is tenable from 1 October 2016 to 31 December 2017. The appointee must hold a PhD or equivalent, and will be an outstanding researcher in their field.

The successful applicant will be required to contribute to undergraduate teaching for the Historical Tripos, in particular, lecturing in Part I Paper 21 (Empires and World History from the Fifteenth Century to the First World War) and Part I Paper 23 (World History since 1914) and especially in Part II Paper 29 (African History since 1800). The postholder may also contribute to a Part I Themes and Sources paper and will supervise undergraduate dissertations. At graduate level, the postholder will contribute to teaching for the MPhil in African Studies at the Centre of African Studies and for the MPhil in World History in the Faculty of History, as well as supervising dissertations for these courses. The incumbent will be required to participating in examining at both undergraduate and MPhil levels and will be expected to offer College supervisions in Part I Papers 21 and 23 and especially in Part II Paper 29.

Fully funded 3-year PhD scholarship position at the University of Amsterdam for Nigerian students

Call for applications, for qualified Nigerian candidates for a fully funded 3-year PhD scholarship position at the University of Amsterdam. PhD supervision will be provided jointly from Amsterdam and Modibbo Adama University of Technology in Yola.
 
The PhD forms part of a larger comparative study (details in attached advert) that will be funded through the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, Division WOTRO Science for Global Development, in collaboration with the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law.
 
The application deadline is the 22nd of JUNE 2016. The planned start date for the PhD is September 2016.
