We are delighted to announce that a short video clip has today been uploaded on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU0rVxVIm0s), as well as on the website of the Civil Society Coalition for Human Rights & Constitutional Law (http://www.ugandans4rights.org/index.php/video-records/video/latest/ugandan-civil-society-files-historic-petition-against-the-anti-homosexuality-act-of-2014.html)
The clip, entitled 'Ugandan Civil Society Files Historic Petition against the Anti-Homosexuality Act (2014)' captures the moment last Tuesday in which a Petition prepared under the auspices of the Legal Committee of the Civil Society Coalition for Human Rights & Constitutional Law was filed at Uganda's Constitutional Court. The Petition represents a concerted effort by a wide range of civil society actors to challenge the constitutionality of the draconian Anti-Homosexuality Act, a law which further undermines the already precarious rights of sexual and gender minorities, and also jeopardizes the work of all those who believe in human rights for all.
Watch the clip and hear and see for yourself some of the key sound-bites extracted from the Press Conference held by the Petitioners at Fairway Hotel. Put faces to the names of the impressive line-up of petitioners. Be inspired by the song "There is Hope" composed by Brian Nkoyoyo and performed by Talented Ugandan Kuchus.
Be assured that civil society in Uganda is not taking this attack on civil liberties lying down.
