Five members of a
sham marriage gang have been jailed at Downpatrick Crown Court.
French nationals with
London addresses - Fatou N'Diaye, 26 and of Ommaney Road; Massiame Bamba, 45
and of Devonport Road; and Ben Ahmed Doumbia, 36 and of Plumstead Road, - were
each charged with conspiracy to facilitate a breach of UK immigration law.
Also
facing the same charge were Cameroon nationals Dominic Nartey, 29 and of
Redwood Close, Cardiff; Elvis Asaah, 30 and of Duckpool Road, Newport; and
Joseph Movuh Vutung, 37 and of Moat Road, Manchester.
Nartey
also faced an additional charge of possessing an identity document with
improper intent.
The
investigation followed a wedding scheduled for 19 December 2013 at Newtownards'
Registry Office which was stopped by Home Office Immigration Criminal
Investigation officers before it could take place.
According
to the Home Office, the court heard that all six conspired to set up a sham
marriage between N'Diaye and Nartey.
"N'Diaye
admitted that she knew the proposed wedding was a sham and that she was being
paid for her role as a bogus bride.
