Exhibition - Adopting Britain: 70 Years of Migration When: 17 Apr 2015 (All day)
Where: Southbank Centre Presented by the Southbank Centre in partnership with Counterpoints Arts and running until 6 September 2015 Adopting Britain: 70 Years of Migration is part of the Southbank Centre's Changing Britain Festival. Inspired by Tales of a New Jerusalem, a series of books by historian David Kynaston, this festival looks at British society, culture and politics of the past 70 years.
This exhibition explores the stories of many different communities that have made Britain their home, from those who chose to come here for work or for love, to those who have sought asylum, fleeing persecution or war in their own countries. Adopting Britain celebrates the keepsakes, traditions and languages communities bring with them from their mother countries, as well as the ways in which individuals and families adapt to their new home. Throughout the exhibition can be found photographs from the Migration Museum Project's 100 Images of Migration.
Looking at the ways in which migration is reported in the media, and the fact that people arriving in the UK have not always received a warm welcome, the exhibition also celebrates those acts of kindness and humanity as the British people, as diverse as they have ever been, reach out to new communities, offering friendship and hope.

Play: 'Love Letters to the Home Office'
When: 30 Apr 2015 (All day) - 1 May 2015 (All day) Where: Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender Hill Battersea London SW11 5TN Love Letters to the Home Office brings to life the true stories of people separated today by the UK's 2012 Family Immigration Rules. The Rules means that our human rights - specifically, our rights to live in the UK and with our family - are dependent on how much we earn. For the last year North Star have been collecting personal stories of love, joy and pain; of extraordinary moments in extraordinary relationships that cross borders, oceans and seas.
Katharine Rose Williams Radojičić is a theatremaker who herself worked for 2 years to bring her husband to the UK. A team of contributing performers, poets, musicians and collaborators combine these true stories with new work in an exploration of the real impact of the UK's immigration policies and media-fuelled public opinion. Chair: Nira Yuval-Davis (CMRB) Please reserve a space at:everydayborders.eventbrite.co.uk Increasing numbers of people are becoming border-guards as employers, landlords, health workers and educators are legally required to administer the UK border as part of their everyday lives. As the 2014 Immigration Act pulls more people into border-guard roles, those who are their subjects experience being denied jobs, accommodation, healthcare and education because these border administrators may not be able or willing to understand the complexities of immigration law, may act on racist stereotypes or, threatened by fines and raids, exclude racialised minorities in order to minimize risk to themselves. What are the implications of these developments to all of us in our daily lives?

ACBBA has established an Enterprise Awards Programme to reward entrepreneurial effort and talent amongst clients of the Enterprise Integration Project. As part of the programme, three small grants will be awarded: • A first award of £600 for the best overall application, • A second award of £400 for the best community oriented application • A third award of £250 for the most innovative proposal
The purposes of these small grants are both to reward effort and help clients explore further their business ideas through small-scale market testing, production of a sample or prototype or acquisition of trade specific skills and knowledge through training or visits. Given the small size of the grant, the scheme is not intended to finance start up costs but help people make progress towards starting up.
APPLYING FOR A SMALL GRANT • Applicants should complete the specific form provided by ACBBA giving an outline of their business idea and indicating the purposes for which grant funding is been sought. • The Enterprise Awards Programme is only available to duly registered clients of the Enterprise Integration Project (EIP project) • ACBBA will only consider applications that are endorsed by an EIP partner organisation. Any EIP partner organisation can endorse applications from the clients they are serving.
SELECTION PROCESS • Applications will be considered by an external panel. The panel will consider applications referred to them by the Executive Director of ACBBA. • All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application. The panel's decision is final.
PAYMENTS • Grant payments to beneficiaries will only be made by cheque. All applicants must have a basic or standard current bank account. • Whenever appropriate, monies will be paid directly by ACBBA on behalf of beneficiaries such as when booking a place for a course or conference.
