Gateway Chapel Makes Strides in Kent To Raise Money For Families Dealing With Terminal Illnesses

 

On Saturday 6^th June Gateway Chapel organised a sponsored walk which raised £3000 for Ellenor, a Kent-Based charity which supports families dealing with terminal illnesses. According to Demos, "of the half a million people who die in Britain each year, 60% die in hospital, even though only eight per cent would choose to die in a hospital. Two thirds of people (60 per cent) would prefer to die at home, surrounded by family, friends and cherished possessions." Ellenor makes such a huge difference to people's lives because the hospices provides a home environment for the terminally ill, with qualified health care professionals at hand. The charity helps coordinate personalised care for all ages to ensure that all families facing terminal illness get the right support in the best place possible.  Gateway Chapel is a Family church that places great emphasis on giving back to the community and so members of this community- minded church took part in a 12-mile walk to support Ellenor Charity.

 

Gateway Chapel knows that when one member of a family hurts, everyone hurts. By adopting Ellenor for its current charitable mission, the church hoped to enable the work it does for hospice care for the terminally ill across Kent.

 

Local people from all walks of life supported the charity walkers as they passed by en-route; with drivers, passers-by and other people generally showing their support. The positive energy and all-round delightful spirit from all participants, reflects the value that any community group or organisation can make in its own way. The Charity Walk included 89 participants, raised awareness for Ellenor and raised over £3000 for the charity.  

 

It was a successful event as the participants walked together as a FAMILY, having FUN, fostering new FRIENDSHIPS and enjoying the FELLOWSHIP of other members.
