Calling all community groups and organisations supporting young refugees Evelyn Oldfield Unit's youth project is designed for young people with refugee background. Part of our work is about building and strengthening the psychological wellbeing and physical health of the young people. Through our free workshops and events we aim to raise awareness about the importance of psychological wellbeing and we also run activities such as sports and arts that are culturally suitable for the group of youth aged 14-18. Working with different immigrants and asylum seekers and refuges, we understand the cultural differences between each group. Hence, our sessions and workshops are tailored with this point in mind. As part of these activities we can organise and deliver free workshops to the young people in the community (details on venue location and times convenient to groups to be discussed further) or invite the young people to attend our free events in Islington where our offices are based. EOU will arrange a session with a topic chosen by your community (whichever topic from our agenda the young people would benefit the most). Please follow the link to our project: http://evelynoldfield.co.uk/our-projects/the-key-project/ Do get in touch if you would find this useful and would like to discuss this further. Please also help us to reach new groups by passing this email offer onto any groups that you think may benefit from this. If your organisation is interested in liaising with the EOU's project or would like to learn more about the activities please contact Mariya at mariya@evelynoldfield.co.uk or on: 0207 697 4103

London's Poverty Profile 2015 launched
The latest report in the London's Poverty Profile series launched this week. One of the key findings of the report is that 27% of Londoners live in poverty after housing costs are taken into account, compared with 20% in the rest of England. The majority of people living in poverty in London are in a working family – from 700,000 to 1.2m people in the last decade, an increase of 70%. The fifth report in the series, London's Poverty Profile 2015 looks at how London has recovered from the recession in terms of unemployment, out-of-work benefit claims and the quality of work available; how poverty and inequality have changed at a time when average incomes have been flat; how London's housing boom is affecting affordability, tenure patterns and housing benefit claims; and how local authorities have been managing their homelessness duty with reduced funds and restrictions due to welfare reform.
London's Poverty Profile is produced by the independent think tank New Policy Institute and funded by Trust for London. Read all about it here.
