Voices of Courage Awards 2016

Honoring Refugee Women
and Civil Society Leaders

Accepting Nominations for Honorees
Deadline: November 24, 2015

Dear Paul,

On April 21, 2016, the Women's Refugee Commission will honor two outstanding women at our Voices of Courage Awards Luncheon in New York City.

As a friend of the Women's Refugee Commission, you are invited to nominate a woman you know who deserves to be recognized on the international stage with this award.

The Voices of Courage Awards are presented annually to resilient, resourceful women who have a personal and powerful story to tell about the challenges and triumphs experienced by the tens of millions of people who have been displaced by conflict and violence.

Voices of Courage awardees represent the many faces and circumstances of the current global refugee population. This year, we invite nominees that fall into two categories; one woman will be chosen from each group.
  1. A current or former refugee woman* who has demonstrated leadership and a strong voice to improve the lives of refugee women, children or youth wherever they reside.
  2. A local civil society woman leader who has developed or implemented successful programs that serve displaced women, children or youth and who can speak to the impact of the Women's Refugee Commission. This leader may or may not be a refugee woman.
Award:
Awardees will receive a grant of US $5,000 to support the programs of the organizations they represent.

Travel Time and Expenses:
All nominees must be able to travel to New York and stay for a week in April 2016 to accept the award. The Women's Refugee Commission will cover all travel and lodging expenses for each of the two awardees selected.

Selection Process:
Completed nominations must be received by Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 5:00pm EST (GMT -5). An independent committee composed of U.S. business leaders, philanthropists and humanitarian aid experts will select the two final awardees from this pool.

Award:
Awardees will receive a grant of US $5,000 to support the programs of the organizations they represent.

Every year, the nominations we receive are deeply affecting and I am moved – all of us at the Women's Refugee Commission are moved – to reinvest in the work to which we have committed.

I encourage you to nominate an extraordinary woman you know today and connect the inspiring leaders in your orbit with the international audience we will convene next April in New York. These stories need to be told.

Nominate a remarkable woman today.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

Sarah Costa
Executive Director

John Major praises 'guts and drive' of immigrants in the UK

John Major praises 'guts and drive' of immigrants in the UK Comments: Mr John Major  is right about migrants in the UK and worldwide. Most of  migrants  leave their countries as asylum seekers fleeing persecution, lack of freedom and human rights abuses. Other leave their countries just to look for new opportunities. Arriving in the new countries such as UK , they work hard to survive. In most cases they have left their families and relatives. They have to share their earnings with the people their left behind and to support the education of their relatives.  They live in disadvantageous situations because they  are not  in the same situation like the British people who  have families that  help them to set up a business for example, pay their education, help them to raise funding or to get a bank loan, to inherit houses and other assets. They face institutional discrimination because most of the...
