'Striking' inequalities in higher education fuel gender pay gap Twice as many male academics as female scholars earn more than £50,000 a year, new figures on academia's gender pay gap show. Other inequalities also exist for female academics; they are less likely to have a permanent post and more likely to be part-time or employed on a teaching-only contract, the report says. The principle aim of the project is to develop a deeper understanding of how a range of disinfection by-product (DBP) precursors derived from DOM can be measured and controlled pre-disinfection stage to prevent or reduce the formation of substances such as Trihalomethane (THM) in drinking waters. The project aims to do this by developing early warning rapid screening techniques using fluorescence spectroscopy. The project will also identify adaptive strategies to optimize elements of treatment such as coagulation that will enhance removal of DPB precursors and avoid formation in the drinking water distribution systems. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with leading industry and academics in this field of study.

The project aims to develop an innovative and highly efficient micro-CHP using steam ejector/water turbine system. This is based on the integration of steam-ejector and water-turbine technology for heat and power generation. The low-cost system would reduce carbon reduction by the utilisation of renewable energy sources, waste heat or hybrid sources (e.g., waste heat/natural gas). For safety, stability and cost, water would be ideal for use the working fluid. |
