Call for Papers
Each year, the Centre of African Studies based at SOAS facilitates the Igbo Conference. The Annual Igbo Conference has carved out a unique space, serving as a bridge between the community and academia. The theme for the 5th Annual International Igbo Conference is Igbo Fusions: Past, Present and Futures. This conference will create a platform for discussions exploring how Igbo culture has been influenced by and influences other cultures. It seeks to complicate perceptions of 'what is Igbo' through examining the diversity amongst the Igbo at 'home', abroad and in digital spaces.
We invite papers that examine a variety of aspects of Igbo fusions which include, but are not limited to:

Please send abstracts in an attached word file, and please do not use all capital letters when writing. We also welcome panel submissions. Proposed panel submissions should be made by the chair, and must provide details of the panel's theme in addition to the names of up to four panelists, abstracts of up to 300 words for each paper, and details of each panelists' name, current position, institutional affiliation (where applicable), email address and phone number. Residential School 2016 Governance for Development in Africa Initiative To be held 21 to 25 March 2016

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation in association with SOAS and the Centre of African Studies-University of London is organising a Residential School 21-25 March 2016 on the topic of 'Governance and Development in Africa'. The residential school is for 20 participants who are policy makers, academics, researchers or civil society representatives from any African country who will gain, through this training, new ideas and knowledge on the broad issue of governance and development. We welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds. Applicants should have at least a MSc degree in areas related to Governance or 5 years professional experiences in fields relevant to the theme of Governance and Development in Africa.
The official language of the School is English. All costs for successful applicants, including economy flights, visa costs, accommodation and meals, will be covered. No per diem. Applications should be sent to cas@soas.ac.uk and should include: - 2 page max CV (including email address for correspondence)
- One reference letter (can be emailed directly by referee to cas@soas.ac.uk)

Visiting Research Fellowships 2016-17
The Centre of African Studies invites applications for two Visiting Research Fellowships from candidates in all the disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The aim of the Fellowships is to enable the fellows to focus on a period of research and writing in Cambridge.
Preference will be given to early- to mid-career candidates with a distinguished research profile. They are expected to be permanent residents in Africa. The appointments will take place from 1 October 2016 – 31 March 2017 and are non-renewable. Each award is worth up to £14,000; out of which travel, college accommodation, maintenance costs and medical insurance will be paid by the Centre on behalf of the fellow.
The closing date for applications is 15 January 2016

The Cornell Institute for African Development (IAD), is holding a symposium on the theme "Development, Religious Extremism, Conflict, Security, and the State in Africa" April 15‐16, 2016 on the Cornell University campus. The symposium will explore the understanding of the complex and multidimensional issue of development and security in the broader sense and the understanding of the fundamental underpinnings of conflict through an inter‐disciplinary approach.

We are pleased to announce the second round of IMMANA Fellowships, for which we will award six 12-month Fellowships to early career researchers using, developing, or adapting new methodological approaches in low- and middle-income countries. Recruitment and support for IMMANA Fellowships is led by the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, with the Leverhulme Centre for Integrative Research on Agriculture and Health (LCIRAH) at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. The project is funded by UK Aid, through the UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID).

 IGC call for proposals
The IGC invites researchers to submit proposals for research projects relevant to economic growth policies in developing countries. The deadline for submissions is 11:59pm GMT, 17 January 2016.

CALL FOR PAPERS - XIII Conference of the Italian Society for Middle Eastern Studies (SeSaMO)

MIGRANTS:COMMUNITIES, BORDERS, MEMORIES, CONFLICTS University of Catania, Italy 17-19 March 2016 Several panels are open to contributions from scholars willing to present a paper on the subject identified by the panel's title and description. You can propose your paper abstract directly to the panel directors, asking them for the deadline for submitting your abstract. Your abstract should be 150 words. Attendance to the 2016 SeSaMO Annual Conference is subject to the payment of a registration fee and a separate but compulsory membership fee to SeSaMO. All paper presenters will have to pay both fees before 20th January, 2016.

CALL FOR PAPERS Women Researching in Africa

Expressions of interest are being requested for an edited book that will contribute to research methods as well as African studies. The focus is on being a woman researcher in Africa, the opportunities and challenges, a gendered study on researching Africa.
