Our 21st century generation of scholars is technologically savvy, increasingly interconnected, and yet, faced with persistently rigid political and institutional structures. Panels will address a range of thematic topics and active approaches to decolonizing the academy. We are soliciting papers that engage with issues of agency, legitimacy, and representation; empirical and analytical findings, research methods, and academic practice; and structural and institutional opportunities and obstacles. Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK and Commonwealth Call for Paper – Footprints and Futures: The time of Anthropology The call for papers is now open for 'Footprints and Futures: The time of Anthropology' conference 2016. before you propose a paper, please read the theme, the rules below, and then browse the list of panels. Proposals must consist of: a paper/contribution/poster title the name/s and email address/es of author/s a short abstract of fewer than 300 characters a long abstract of fewer than 250 words All proposals must be made via the online form, not by email. Call for Proposals - EXTENDED DEADLINE: 25th JANUARY 2016 CODESRIA is pleased to announce that the deadline for submitting papers and flash presentations for "Innovation, transformation and sustainable futures in Africa", June 1-4, 2016, Dakar, Senegal has been extended to JANUARY 25, 2016. The Thomas Gale Scholarship for Kenyan and US Students SOAS Academic Summer School, University of London The SOAS Academic Summer School is please to announce the availability of 4 fully funded scholarships for the summer school. With 2 of these to be allocated to undergraduate Kenyan students, the other 2 to US students. Students are able to apply for one of the three week summer school courses offered as part of SOAS Academic Summer School. For Application details, Deadline and how to apply, please visit this link.     Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Opportunity The China-Africa Research Initiative at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS-CARI), directed by Professor Deborah Brautigam, will offer one post-doctoral research fellow position for a twelve-month period between July 2016 and June 2017. Fellows will spend approximately half of their time on their own research projects, and half providing support to other CARI research projects. This support could include leading CARI research assistants in cleaning and analyzing data on Chinese finance and investment in Africa, organizing and implementing desk and field studies, drafting research papers and policy briefs, presenting at conferences, and assisting with outreach activities and communications as necessary For more details please click here. We appreciate your further dissemination of this posting to interested candidates In 2012, the University of California, Berkeley became a partner in The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program, a $500 million education initiative that will provide 15,000 talented, yet economically disadvantaged students from developing countries – particularly in Africa – with comprehensive support for secondary and university education. At UC Berkeley, this program will provide holistic support – financial, academic, social, and career counseling – to 113 students from Sub-Saharan Africa from 2012 to 2020. How to Apply.   Mobility Grant The North South Cooperation of the University of Zurich (UZH), in collaboration with the Oeuvre St.-Justin Fribourg, is awarding grants to up to three mobility students from African universities for the academic year 2016-17. The grants can be used to study one or two semesters at UZH. Grants are only awarded if a professor at UZH guarantees supervision and has a strong interest in working with the mobility student's home institution. Deadline Applications for the academic year 2016/17 must be submitted by 15 February 2016 at the Coordination Center North South. Colin Murray Award for Postdoctoral Research in Southern Africa The Editorial Board of the Journal of Southern African Studies (JSAS) is delighted to launch a second round of the postdoctoral research award named after Colin Murray, longstanding Editorial Board member and former editor and chair, who died in October 2013. The Colin Murray Award scheme welcomes applications from post-doctoral researchers within two years after the award of their PhD for up to £3,000 to support original 'engaged field research' on a topic relevant to the diverse interests and work of the late Colin Murray.
