Inspiring Quotes of the WeekTHIS WEEK: INVOLVEMENT "You teach me, I forget. You show me, I remember. You involve me, I understand." ~ Edward O. Wilson Probably inspired by Benjamin Franklin's quote above, and perhaps more accurate. As Mark Twain said, "If you hold a cat by the tail, you learn things you cannot learn in any other way." With involvement you get to really understand. "The real potential of in-depth living requires involvement, by recognizing a need, overcoming fear and taking responsibility. Watching from the sidelines does not achieve worthwhile goals and provides little fulfillment." ~ Peter Shepherd In the process of life we reach out to get involved, then when we feel it's appropriate we withdraw to think about what's happened and plan a better strategy before again, reaching out. Reach and withdraw, that's life. We can get stuck in the withdraw phase and that would be a pity. "Crucial to science education is hands-on involvement: showing, not just telling; real experiments and field trips and not just virtual reality." ~ Martin Rees Same for all kinds of education, and our own, self-directed education every day of our lives. When life is abstract, just viewed from a distance, it's not real enough to inspire a commitment, not personal enough to make us want to get involved. "I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody." ~ Lily Tomlin Without involvement, a commitment lacks meaning. As Dr. John Mathieson said: Ask less often, "What's in it for me?" and more often, "What's in me for it?" "Everywhere you go is a chance to change the world. One smile, one hug, one act of kindness can make the world of difference to someone!" ~ Karen Salmansohn To make a difference, first create the difference you want to see in yourself, and then spread that influence by getting involved!
Further reading online: Spiritual writers make much of "being in the present moment" - what they really mean is the state of right-brain involvement, which is timeless in nature, so intuitive faculties are fully available and therefore access to the Higher Self and universal spiritual connection. For this reason, spiritual manifestation does not come into play until we move beyond a thinking and planning stage and adopt the mode of full involvement, of responsible action aligned with our vision. Since we are responsible, at cause, and connected with Spirit - responsible for All That Is - the whole world of synchronicities and the "magic" of manifestation is enabled. This is just not possible in the "thinking about" customary mode of left-brain consciousness. The World of Inspiration eLibrary This is a massive library of personal growth and spiritual resources.
