Mr Francis Agbeja, the Director, Daffresh Freight Services Limited in the UK has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle insurgency and corruption to sustain peace in Nigeria.
The director, who gave the advice during a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), also called on the new administration to strive to defend the country’s integrity.
He said that “according to a recent World Bank statistics, youth unemployment rate is 38 per cent; realistically however, at least 80 per cent of Nigerian youths are unemployed.
“The rural population accounts for about half of this figure, while secondary, university and polytechnic graduates make up the other half of the figure.
“The available jobs remain inadequate to keep pace with the ever-expanding army of job seekers.
“The level of insecurity, unemployment and poverty in the country need to be tackled quickly and in its entirety.’’
Agbeja then appealed to the president to work closely with the Federal Executive Council, the National Assembly and the Judiciary, to strengthen the anti-graft war in the nation.
He said “the President should endeavour to carry every sector along.’’
According to him, the focus of the government should be to strengthen the Independent Corruption Practices, other related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by guaranteeing institutional autonomy.
He also advised the president to ensure that all political appointees in his administration declared their assets; it would be a right step to checkmate their activities.
“This will, consequently, help to cut down the cost of governance,’’ he said.
The director commended Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, for declaring their assets as earlier promised.
Agbeja also appealed to the president to create more jobs to address unemployment among the teeming Nigerian youths. (NAN)
